Learn how easy it is to combine two or more projects in Cricut Design Space into one project; super useful with the Cricut Mug Press designs!

With the release of the NEW Cricut Mug Press machine, it got me to wondering how to use some of my existing projects that I've saved in Cricut Design Space with the Cricut Mug Designs. Is there a way to combine, merge or import an existing design with another design?

You bet there is! And it's super easy. I've even created a video to show you just how easy it is. Plus, I share with you how to use the Cricut Mug Design project file (think of it as a handy template) with an existing project file. Maybe you have a favorite mug design and you want to use it with the new Mug Press – you can! And I'll show you how!

See, when Cricut designed their new Mug Press machine, they sort of thought of everything, including creating project files that were specifically designed to make it easy for you to properly layout your mug designs. As of the writing of this tutorial, there are currently two project files available from Cricut and designed for use with their mug blanks and mug press machine.

Plus, the mug design project file (that is really a template) for use with the infusible ink transfer sheets has a straight edge, ripped edge, scalloped edge, wavy edge and even a zig zag edge that you can combine with your designs to create really stunning customized mugs. But, more on that in a moment.

Why would you want to combine projects?

Before we get into the how-to, let's talk a moment about WHY you would even want to combine projects. I can think of a few good reasons, such as:

  • create a new design using elements or designs from two or more saved projects
  • print out multiple projects at one time (big time saver!!)
  • use a saved project with the new Cricut Mug Press (great idea)

And when I say combine, I mean merge two or more files into one or to import one design into another design thereby creating a new design. Does that make sense? I hope so!

So, what got me to thinking about how to combine Cricut projects in Design Space in the first place was the introduction of the new Cricut Mug Press machine. You can read my "first look" or first impression of the new machine here.

Mug Blanks

The mugs that you use with the Cricut Mug Press are called "mug blanks". These mugs are specially coated mugs that are designed specifically for use with the mug press machine. You don't have to use Cricut brand mug blanks, but they are highly recommended.

You can use straight mugs designed for use with sublimation. Curved mugs don't fit well nor do the designs transfer well in the Cricut Mug Press.
